Holly's Wait is Over!

I was lucky enough to meet the lovely Holly (see post below) and her parents last week at an organ donation study day in Manchester. A week later and she has received the gift of a new kidney! She is already out of high dependency and doing well. The kidney however is being very stubborn and not yet working although all the signs are good. So please send her your prayers and positive vibes!

Channel Four

Our friends at Live Life Then Give Life have asked for our support of the following campaign. Please log on and vote - it only takes a minute

Channel Four are doing a programme called Battlefront where young campaigners are fighting hard to get their cause featured. 19 have been picked and there is one space left.LLTGL Advocate Holly Shaw, has had her "Gift of Life" campaign idea accepted! And now it's over to us.Channel 4 are going to pick the most popular campaign to go through to their final group, with their favourite ones being featured on the Battlefront TV programme. To vote people have to do is visit the website above and click on "Vote". That's it! No need to register or anything else. So please, for the love of pie, vote, pass this on, spread the word, hassle friends/work colleagues etc. http://battlefront.co.uk/campaign/the-gift-of-life/ Holly has a disadvantage in that she has only just got her campaign on the website and voting ends next week (1st October). So we are asking as many people as possible to put a link up about this on their websites, Myspaces, Facebooks, etc. so we can get this campaign on channel 4. Really appreciate any help anyone can give - it would be such a shame for Channel four to run this thing without anything about organ donation whatsoever...

Birthdays

Do other families have any ideas or suggestions of how to remember their loved one on family birthdays? Ideally without it becoming something tragic and potentially upsetting everyone on what should be a happy occasion! Ideas to share very welcome.

Quotes

At the moment I'm working on creating a small leaflet about donor families to be given to recipients post transplant. The idea is that it will give encouragement, reassurance and comfort to recipients to know that their donor gave the gift of live as just that, a gift. The leaflet contains short quotes from donor families about what organ donation and the gift of life means to them and the difference it has made to dealing with their tragedy and loss. But I need more quotes - just one line will do. So if you'd like to contribute - post back!

New Beginnings

This is the new blog of the Donor Family Network. I hope to explore all sorts of issues that are important to families who are newly bereaved, those who are further along on their journey or those who just want to know more or share experiences.
So join me on a new journey.....
